Late on Good Friday, the Ukrainian government announced a “pause” in its “anti-terrorist” operations against the pro-Russian separatists who have seized government buildings in a dozen eastern Ukrainian cities. Many news articles have cited that even while Ukraine is divided by language, culture and patron state affiliation, they have a common ground in Orthodox Christianity. Important religious leaders have passed patriotic insults as well.

Forces of the Moro National Liberation Front launched an assault on the Mindanao city of Zamboanga early this morning leading to a battle with security forces. Reports of the attacks claim that the rebels came by boat first attacking port facilities, then moving into the Rio Hondo neighborhood.

On Wednesday an estimated 1,000 last Wednesday have been killed with symptoms of a neurotoxin like sarin nerve gas.

Doctors Without Borders reported taking in 3,600 casualties of the same symptoms at the three hospitals and 355 deaths on Saturday in attacks near Damascus. Syrian state media blamed the rebels for using chemical weapons.

The democratic “Arab Spring” (Islamist Spring) is unraveling or tearing itself asunder with grave human rights violations and degenerating to further political oppression. The youth-bulge in highly Muslim developing nations, the poor economic performance, corruption, lack of freedoms, and abuses are all well cited reasons for the regional unrest and uprisings.

European Parliament: “[The trial] is a violation of international and national laws and clearly shows the malfunctioning of the Russian criminal justice system.”

US Congressman James P. McGovern (D-MA): “Unfortunately, the ordeal of Sergei Magnitsky did not end with his death. All these malevolent moves make it clear that Russian leaders recognize that they no longer have the support of the people they govern, and so they must resort to scare tactics to try and keep the lid on dissent.”

Sergei Leonidovich Magnitsky was coerced in prison to give false testimony, tortured, and died for tax evasion suspicion without ever receiving a trial (2008-2009).

The alleged Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev pleaded not guilty in his opening trial on Wednesday. He faces about 30 federal charges, originally only two: the use of a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death and malicious destruction of property with an explosive resulting in death.

Egyptian nationalist and Islamist political division has reached a boiling point. Millions of protestors have demanded the resignation, reform or removal of President Mohamed Morsi. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) demanded that Morsi resign or be removed within 48 hours. The deadline has passed.

One year later, the democratically elected President Mohamed Morsi is threatened into collapse as a result of his massive power grab and broad neglect for a large share of Egyptian citizens. Mass protests in Egypt against President Morsi have now gained the support of the military.

On national television, the chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) Colonel General Abdul Fatah Al-Sisi demanded that Morsi respond to protest demands and offer some sort of power-sharing arrangement.

Events in Boston over the past 24 hours have been intense as police hunt for an individual believed to be involved in the Boston marathon bombing. The authorities have stated that the two men believed to have perpetrated the bombing are siblings. One brother was killed during a police chase last night, while the younger brother is still at large.
