Transcript:

From day one, we were taught the meaning of sacrifice.

A bunch of wide-eyed recruits unsure about the future.

Those who came before us confronted their mortality.

They recognized the honor of sacrificing for an idea bigger than ourselves.

We remember.

True heroism is never sought. It’s about serving others no matter the cost.

We are the beneficiaries of their sacrifice.

When we say thank you, the highest honor is not to utter the words, but to live by them.

We remember.

And while our brothers and sisters might be gone, they will never be forgotten.

We remember.

As long as this flag flies over these United States we will honor those who gave their lives for freedom, liberty and most importantly, so their comrades could make it home safely.

We remember.

To those who made the ultimate sacrifice… We remember.

Podcast interview with George Vukovich
Associate Vice President of Veteran’s and Related Communities, American Military University

With the holiday just around the corner most people will be readying their grills, or packing their cars for a road trip to the beach. It’s easy to forget why this holiday is celebrated every year. To those who have served, and those who have lost loved ones in war, this holiday means something a little different. This is a time to memorialize those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for the country, their life.
