Bombing Hits India’s High Court

By William Tucker

Twelve people were killed in Delhi, India on Wednesday when a bomb in a briefcase detonated in a crowd of people waiting to get vendor licenses near the high court. Judging from various eyewitness accounts, it appears as if the individual placing the improvised explosive device did not penetrate security, instead the bomb was placed among the crowd just outside a security checkpoint. Indian authorities have detained a few individuals in connection to this bombing, but they are still searching for the individual that actually placed the bomb. The attack has already been claimed by three different terrorist groups; however each of these claimants all have ties to HuJI. India, of course, is no stranger to terrorism. In the wake of the Mumbai attacks of 2008, officials in Delhi created a new national investigation service and expanded the capabilities to rapidly response to an ongoing terrorist crises. The Prime Minister has already stated that the new NIS will take the lead on this attack – one that will likely be a good test for the nascent service.
