In Homeland Security is pleased to announce its latest contributor: Sylvia Longmire.

Sylvia is a nationally renowned author and an ASBPE award-winning contributing editor for Homeland Security Today magazine and Breitbart Texas. She is a former officer and Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and worked for four years as a Senior Intelligence Analyst for the California State Threat Assessment Center, specializing in southwest border violence and Mexico’s drug war.

Her first book, Cartel: The Coming Invasion of Mexico’s Drug Wars, was published in September 2011 and was nominated for a Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Her second book, Border Insecurity: Why Big Money, Fences, and Drones Aren’t Making Us Safer, was published in April 2014.

Sylvia has been published in Small Wars Journal, Henley-Putnam University’s Journal of Strategic Security, the Journal of Energy Security, the American Bar Association’s National Security Report, Tuft University’s Fletcher Forum on World Affairs, Stanford University’s The Peregrine, and the US Army Counter Terrorism Center’s The Sentinel.

She has been interviewed extensively by various news outlets including Hannity, Fox & Friends, Lou Dobbs Tonight and Geraldo at Large on Fox News; John King USA and At This Hour on CNN; and Jose Díaz-Balart and The Dylan Ratigan Show on MSNBC.

Sylvia has also appeared on CNN International, CNN México, AOL News and BBC Radio. Her work has been featured in The Miami Herald, the Houston Chronicle and the San Diego Union-Tribune, as well as Mexico’s Proceso, El Universal, El Diario, and Rio Doce.

Sylvia has also appeared as a guest expert on an episode of The History Channel’s Brad Meltzer’s Decoded and has regularly consulted with the producers of National Geographic Channel’s Border Wars and Drugs Inc. series. Sylvia also serves as an expert witness in U.S. immigration cases.
