In response to tweets claiming earlier this month that Trump Tower was under surveillance during last year’s campaign, FBI Director Comey stated that neither the FBI nor any other agencies associated with the Department of Justice had any information to support these claims. When addressing the House Intelligence Committee, he stated, “I have no information that supports those tweets and we have looked carefully inside the FBI. The Department of Justice has asked me to share with you that the answer is the same for the Department of Justice and all its components. The department has no information that supports those tweets.”

Comey went on to further explain that it would not be possible for a president in office, President Obama at the time, to order wiretapping of that nature, as the tweets claimed.

Earlier this month, Comey had asked the Department of Justice to reject the claims made by the current president.

Director Comey did confirm in his statements that an ongoing investigation is taking place regarding ties between the Trump campaign and any association with the Russian government, as well as Russian interference with the election.
